Having an impressive list of headliners is not the leading priority of Inner Varnika, the three-day festival aimed at providing a one-of-a-kind intimate weekend full of solid legends. Yet the impressive list of quality acts shall not go unmentioned. Here’s our top five key playas that we believe will provide nothing but belters as they grace the Victorian countryside.

Pursuit Grooves

Pursuit Grooves is a one-woman powerhouse, producer, beat-maker, vocalist, ex-MC, visual artist, DJ and self-proclaimed “Renaissance Woman” and will be bringing her UK broken beat, jazzy and hip-hop inspired compositions to the bush. With productions on What Rules, Tectonic, Deepblak, Sound Warrior, Human Level, Rabid/Brille, Brownswood, Tokyo Dawn and Rush Hour just to name a few, her experimental soulful, bassy house tracks will be one to keep track of time for.

Bjørn Torske

The Norwegian veteran produces music that becomes tastier as it ages, like cheese and wine. He’s worked with icons such as Röyksopp and influenced artists like Australian favourites, Cashmere Cat and Todd Terje. You can call him the Cosmic Disco Master and you should probably kick back, relax and let him fly you to an ambient space soundscape with uplifting melodies that have been perfectly crafted for the dance floor.

Mr. Scruff

His scruffy facial hair and left of field synth-inspired groovy sound make up what is the great man, Mr. Scruff. He’s a Ninja Tune turtle who loves to create his own album and single art in what he calls “potato style”. He’s also famous for his love for tea after selling it at the club — because why the fuck not? Tea’s pretty grouse. Check him out this weekend and try to catch him and get some keen brewing tips from the expert.

DJ Bone

The Detroit DJ who now holds residencies in Berlin and other European clubs is renowned for his exceptional and flawless mixing even though he often has no idea what he’ll play until he gets to the club. Most of the time it’s tunes with some serious stomp. He’ll mix from Vinyl to USB and sometimes with three decks at once so we’re looking forward to seeing what his set will offer this weekend.

Umfang

Born in the Bronx and having grown up in Kansas, the talented DJ Umfang has always been a solid supporter of emerging talent and delivering more representative lineups to dance music. She co-founded Discwoman, holds a monthly residency for Technofeminism and is also a family member of Ninja Tune. If you’re ready for head-banging techno, be ready for her.
