Next month, DJ duo Twitch and Jonnie Wilkes – better known as legendary electronic duo Optimo – return to Australia for five shows, including a much anticipated festival set at Strawberry Fields.

Combining to become Optimo in 1997, Twitch and Wilkes –with 20 years of DJ experience between them – are known for their disregard for genres, and have explored a range of different styles in their sets, including electro, rock, funk, jazz and more.

Optimo (Espacio) – or ‘Optimum Space’ – began as a weekly Sunday nightclub based in the Sub Club in Glasgow, Ireland, which ran every week until its end in April 2010. With Twitch and Wilkes as residents, it was famous for its innovation and diverse tunes. The club was renowned for its zero tolerance to approach to “DJ culture” as well as their live-booking policy and played host to names such as Four Tet, LCD Soundsystem, Green Velvet and Hot Chip.

Although the club night may have ended, Optimo are still taking their sound to the world together and as solo artists, and have cemented their name as two of the best in UK DJ history.
